John Simpson of Consumer Watchdog joined host Michael Finney to elaborate on his latest article about the dangers of technological advances, “Home Assistant Adopter Beware: Google, Amazon Digital Assistant Patents Reveal Plans for Mass Snooping.”
According to Simpson, the two corporate giants are gearing up to ditch the limitations of “awake words” — i.e. “Hey Google” or “Alexa” — and begin listening all the time.
If the filed patents hold true, in the future the digital assistants will utilize everything from keywords (Amazon) to camera features (Google) to identify what information they should be feeding users.
The upgraded products will be ultra-savvy and undeniably convenient, but is compromising your privacy worth it?
