Republican senators draft legislation for paid family leave, but there’s a caveat


Republican senators are in the works of drafting legislation to help relieve the financial strain of starting a family by allowing new parents to funnel funds from their Social Security contributions to finance 12 weeks of family leave.

In exchange, participants of the program would repay those funds through delaying their eligibility for retirement.

Host Ethan Berman has strong opinions on the legislation, which he believes sidesteps bigger issues and would disproportionately punish individuals in lower socioeconomic classes.

He and Carrie Lukas, the president of the Independent Women’s Forum, got into a lively debate on the topic.
