San Francisco to vote on banning flavored tobacco products

The future of flavored e-cigarettes and tobacco products in San Francisco will be in the hands of voters this June.

Proponents of the deciding measure, Prop E, argue advertising appealing products such as candy apple vape juice encourages youth to pick up smoking.

David Sweanor, a law professor at University of Ottawa who has been deeply involved in developing policy to reduce cigarette smoking globally, sees the other side of the coin. He joined host Chip Franklin and Nikki Medoro to caution against the black-and-white approach and encourage people to think broader. According to him, the ban could make the smoking epidemic worse in the long run if research holds true.
