“We need to have really hard evidence. If you are accused of something show the evidence.” – First Lady Melania Trump on sexual assault victims

In a sit down interview with ABC World News Tonight that is scheduled to air Friday, first lady Melania Trump spoke about the #MeToo movement, commenting that both victims and the accused are deserving of support, but that victims should have “hard evidence” before coming forward.

“You need to have really hard evidence, that, you know, if you accuse of something, show the evidence,” Trump said. “I do stand with women, but we need to show the evidence. You cannot just say to somebody, you know, ‘I was sexually assaulted’ or ‘You did that to me,’ because sometimes the media goes too far and the way they portray some stories, it’s not correct, it’s not right.”

KGO’s Chip Franklin was critical of the comments on Thursday’s show, arguing that it’s a questionable message to send considering the difficulty that woman have historically faced when coming forward about sexual assault.

“It’s heartbreaking when you think that these people, they try to figure out what they’re going to say, how they’re going to do it, and they finally come forward and then they are called liars,” Franklin said. “How come we didn’t call the men who were sexually molested by priests, how come we didn’t call them liars? But women who come forward like (Christine) Blasey Ford, ‘Well you must not remember it well because you’re a woman. You must have something wrong with your head it’s the hormones or whatever.’

“I don’t really care what (Trump) has to say but she is married to the President of the United States who came out and mocked (Christine) Blasey Ford. I don’t know.”
