Director Lino DiSalvo on his film Playmobil: The Movie

(STX Films)

Animator, film director, writer and voice actor Lino DiSalvo joins the Mark Thompson Show to give us details on his newest film, Playmobil: The Movie.

Playmobil is a storytelling toy. What Lego is to construction, I would say Playmobil is to storytelling. They sell like these different “genres”: fairytale castle, the spy set, and the viking set. My kids play with the toy a lot. So, you know, as a filmmaker, I have a take on the toy and potential narrative to support a movie. I love the idea that children use Playmobiol to tell stories. So I want to do something very much like a film from the 80s, where children encounter magic… These two siblings find themselves in this magical setting at night in New York City, and they find themselves in this toy fair. I don’t want to give anything away, but this magical thing happens and they turn in to their childhood toys. They get zapped into a Playmobil world.
