Home of Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf Badly Vandalized

Tuesday morning Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s residence was found badly vandalized with several messages scrawled in spray paint and shells of fireworks found at the scene.

“Defund OPD!,” Forgive Rent!,” and “Blood on your hands” were a few of the messages that the vandals wanted to share with Schaaf. KRON 4 reporter Chuck Clifford posted the pictures and the news outlet is reporting that the incident is currently under investigation.

According to reports by the SF Chronicle, neighbors of the Mayor saw a group of around 15-20 people in all black military gear approach the house chanting “Wake up Libby,” where they began to set off fireworks.

As of noon Tuesday the Mayor released a statement about the attack:

“An attack at the home of a publicly elected official does not advance democracy. Around 2 a.m. vandals shot projectiles at the Mayor’s home, set off fireworks, and graffitied her home with paint. This attack, designed to intimidate the Mayor and strike fear into her family, will not stop her from advocating for the policies she believes are in the best long-term interests of her beloved hometown. Like all Oaklanders, she supports passionate protest but does not support tactics meant to harm and terrorize others.”

Monday the Mayor had tweeted that she rejected Trump’s want to send in federal law offers to her city saying, “We are not experiencing any civil unrest right now, but I can think of nothing more likely to incite it than the presence of Trump-ordered military troops into Oakland.”

Her comments came after Trump told reporters that he wanted to send Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents to more liberal-run cities such as Chicago, New York, Detroit, and Oakland to mimic what has happened in Portland.
