Alameda County Relaxes Some Coronavirus Restrictions

Alameda County officials announced they will begin loosening restrictions set in place to slow the spread of coronavirus. As of Friday, August 28th, Alameda County will allow some lower-risk activities and services to reopen.

According to a statement, on August 28th, the updated public health order will allow outdoor reopening for:

  • Swimming pools
  • Hair salons
  • Nail salons
  • Barbershops
  • Waxing services
  • Skin care
  • Non-medical massages
  • Wine tastings by appointment at places that do not serve food

The order also allows for the following outside activities:

  • Curbside pickup for libraries
  • Small gatherings of individuals from different households
  • Dog parks
  • Religious services and cultural ceremonies
  • Political gatherings or protests
  • Non-contact fitness classes
  • Museums, historical sights and public accessible garden
  • Childcare providers to provide care to all children, not just children of essential workers
  • Establishes conditions under which youth extracurricular activities may resume
  • Educational institutions to offer career internship and pathways programs
  • Certain business providing services with limited person-to-person contact, including appliance repair and pet grooming services
  • School and college sports teams can train or hold non-contact practices, conditioning, or drills outdoors
  • Professional sports teams can resume practices, games, and tournaments without fan attendance;
  • Zoos under conditions imposed by the state and by this order

The orders exclude services that may require clients to remove face coverings, as well as eyebrow threading and waxing, plus eyelash treatments.

The updated order excludes bars, breweries, and pubs. In addition, tattoos, piercings, and electrolysis are still prohibited from operating indoors or outdoors in accordance with state guidelines.
