Bay Area Reacts: ‘We are so, so proud of you’

Joe Biden is officially President of the United States and Oakland’s Kamala Harris is his Vice President.

Bay Area leaders fled to social media to congratulate the 46th president of the United States and the nation’s first female vice president. Harris, the former U.S. senator from California is also the first Black person and the first person of South Asian descent elected to the vice presidency and becomes the highest-ranking woman ever to serve in government..

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf tweeted her support as a fellow Oaklander.

 

Schaaf also displayed her pride outside of her home Wednesday morning.

 

Governor Gavin Newsom shared his appreciation for the Biden Harris administration on multiple platforms including Twitter, TikTok and Instagram.

“It is a hopeful and inspiring day in America. Our country is rooted in our democratic ideals and the peaceful transfer of power. Today, history was made with President Joe Biden & CA’s Vice President Kamala Harris. Now, we come together to become the America we know we can be.” Newsom continued, “Today, President Biden called for unity. Healing. To once again listen to & respect our fellow Americans to ‘end this uncivil war.’ CA stands ready as a full partner to the Biden-Harris administration as they tackle some of the most challenging crises our nation has ever faced.”

Schaaf and Nikki Medoro both retweeted the Oakland Warriors video congratulating Harris.

 

San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo expressed his well wishes for Biden and Harris as they lead our country.

 

San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney shared support for the history-making team.

 

KGO’s own Nikki Medoro lived tweeted her thoughts on the inauguration.

 

Chip Franklin expressed his relief for the new administration.
