Dr. Alok Patel, journalist, producer, and physician joins Mark Thompson Wednesday afternoon to discuss coronavirus, the importance of masks, and much more.

“If you look at what scientists speculate…vaccines should limit how much you are transmitting the virus, however, we don’t know for sure yet, which is why anyone out there who gets the vaccine…is still recommended to go through all the normal precautions to make sure we are not spreading it.” Said Dr. Alok Patel in response to the questions from Mark and KGO listeners.

One concerned listener asked about potential allergic reactions to the coronavirus vaccine. Dr. Patel explained out of the 17 million vaccines that have been distributed only 11 to 12  people have reported cases of anaphylactic shock.

“The only time that you should be talking to your doctor about an allergy to one of these vaccines is if you have a history of anaphylaxis…to another vaccine. Even if that situation, you’re still most likely able to get this shot…this is why…you’re still going to be under medical monitoring for 15 to 30 minutes after you get [the vaccination].” Explained Dr. Patel.
