Canada’s Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced Wednesday the Proud Boys were one of 13 groups now designated as terrorist organizations. ABC Correspondent Aaron Katersky joins The Morning Show with Nikki Medoro Thursday morning to explain why Canada decided include the Proud Boys along with the Russian Imperial Movement and two neo-Nazi groups as terrorist entities.
Violent extremism has no place in Canada. Today, we announced that 13 additional groups have met the threshold to be listed as terrorist entities in Canada. These additions include four groups whose violent extremism is motivated by hateful ideologies. pic.twitter.com/scg3ljJuVP

“The listings process is guided by the work of our national security agencies. The listing of an entity sends a signal that Canada will not tolerate violent extremism. A listing also carries significant consequences, and enables the application of measures.” Bill Bair tweeted, “Set out in the Criminal Code to deter terrorist activity both inside Canada and abroad. A listing also provides a clear means to address online hate by helping to facilitate the removal of an entity’s online content.”
