California Governor Newsom announced additional incentives as part of California’s Comeback Plan in San Francisco on Monday morning.
“We are confident these vaccine incentives have worked and that’s why we want to continue in that spirit,” Newsom said.
More than 21 million Californians were entered to win $50,000 in cash prize drawings, with 30 winners selected to receive a total of $1,500,000, 11 of which are from the Bay Area. The office of the governor stated California has seen a 13 percent increase in vaccinations, becoming one of the only states in the country to achieve a week-over-week increase.
Now, in celebration of California’s reopening on June 15th, ten more vaccinated residents will be randomly selected to win $1.5 million each.
If all of these incentives weren’t enough, Californians can now win a “dream vacation”, plus $2,000 to cover the cost of travel. Details of each “dream vacation” have not been announced, but Newsom said the locations will be across the state. Some of the prizes included Disneyland tickets, a stay at the Ritz Carlton in Palm Springs and Lakers tickets. Six residents will win a “dream vacation” on July 1st.
The ultimate goal is to boost tourism within the state as the industry was hit hard during the coronavirus pandemic with revenue dropping $80 billion from 2019 to 2020.
