One lucky person in Illinois is the sole winner of the $1.34 billion Mega Millions jackpot, the second-largest lottery prize in the game’s 20-year history.
After all ticket sales were counted, the final value was higher than the initial estimate of $1.28 billion.
The last time someone won the Mega Millions jackpot was on April 15th, when a Tennessee resident scored a $20 million jackpot. If no one won Friday’s drawing the prize had potential to grow to $1.7 billion for Tuesday’s drawing, making it the nation’s largest lottery prize, according to lottery officials.
“We are thrilled to have witnessed one of the biggest jackpot wins in Mega Millions history,” Ohio Lottery Director and current Lead Director for the Mega Millions Consortium, Pat McDonald said in a statement. “We’re eager to find out who won and look forward to congratulating the winner soon!”
The winning numbers in Friday’s drawing were 13, 36, 45, 57 and 67 with the Mega Ball 14.
